Design our lives and regenerate Nature
Everything here is grounded in simple practices and the belief that small, thoughtful actions can regenerate ourselves, the land, and the projects we care for.
Hi, I’m Permacultureanna
I’m a permaculture author, teacher, and farmer living in Hastings. This website is a place for practical permaculture in everyday lives. I teach courses, grow and preserve food, and host camping and retreats on my farm. I also offer consultations, coaching, and private design work, and I enjoy visiting groups to share talks and workshops rooted in real experience.

Learn
Whilst only being 10 minutes from Hastings, Small Meadow Farm offers a peaceful place to stay, with far-reaching views, open skies, and space to slow down.
Stay
I grow to cook, and I cook to preserve, so food can be enjoyed well beyond the harvest. You can find me at local farmers markets and I also hold events on the farm.
Eat
I work with people and groups who want to design, learn, and live in harmony with nature. I also do tailored talks and hands-on workshops.

Upcoming Courses
To stay up to date, join the mailing list or follow along on social media for harvest updates, events, and seasonal news.
Over the weekend you’ll be introduced to the heart of permaculture: its core ethics and principles, how nature’s patterns guide thoughtful design, and the basics of the permaculture design process.
(This course is a pre-requisite for the full Permaculture Design Certificate.)
On the farm design weekend we will think about how to integrate all that we want in our projects and how to go about planning and implementing what we will need.
Working through questions:
How do we approach our bigger land project over time?
How do we become familiar with our landscape?
What design tools can we use to organize our thinking?
The Forager's Garden
This is a complete guide to growing an edible sanctuary where wildflowers and local species thrive, alongside lots of food that you can go out and gather. These gardens are long-term, low maintenance and vibrant spaces that help restore the Nature around us.
I love your book, thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the world. You make the ideas of forest gardening and permaculture really accessible for people. I bought a paper copy (as well as digital) and it’s going round the workshop participants. You’re a big inspiration for me.

The book really sets out how to grow lots of food with minimal work in a way that has ecological integrity.... a must read.

'I finished the book last night. We share the same passion and my garden design along these lines is being created as I write. Your passion shines through in the book, so I am certain you will encourage many more to consider adding aspects of this to their own garden.

This is such a useful book for anyone who is interested in creating a low maintenance edible garden, even in a small space. It breaks the principles down really simply, everything is easy to follow and feels achievable, even for a novice gardener and those on low budgets, whether it's your own garden or a community space. I also really liked how the practical advice is linked to the bigger picture around food security and community building. It has definitely inspired me and given me the confidence to try this approach in my own small garden!

Reviews
“We really enjoyed coming to the farm every month and seeing what you have managed to do and learn how to design our own space. It was great to find something to do as a couple and the rest of the group was amazing..”

“Learning all the foundations of permaculture was so inspiring and made me feel more connected to something hopefull - in a world that can feel so full of problems. I love that permaculture focusses more on solutions and there is so much already out there that is making a huge difference. We all need to learn permaculture, please!”

“We had lots of campfires and walked to the coastguard cafe followed by the beach where we got to swim with a seal!! Highly recommend at least 2 nights and bring lots of lovely food for the fire which Anna has provided very useful grills to cook on! Would definitely camp here again :) Thanks!”
